I believe that the relationships that are formed throughout one's life contributes greatly to one's individuality. My morals, ideals, ambitions and passions are developed and shaped by the different relationships that I grow through- right up to the audience whom I perform this piece for. I am made of the many colors that others have given to me. Vibrantly. These people piece me together. Some of them have devastated me, others I love with all of my heart. But they all contribute to the person that I am. My questions are, how am I effected by them? How do they push me or hold me back? How do they twist or take different shape as I move through my life? Do I exist without them...? Costumed in a white long- sleeved shirt and a pair of white pants, covered with pictures of various people in my life, this scattering of images makes up my body and as I move the faces turn and change. This is illuminated by a video that is intricately edited to both follow, focus and further abstract both the images and the dance. Three versions of the video are played live on three different monitors. This is the space that I dance in.
Choreographically, I believe that everyone has these questions and has personal answers of their own. There are many decisions to make- one of them is "what to focus on, at any given time." I am a big fan of distraction on stage- forcing the audience to be a part of the decision making process. My goal with this piece, is to lead the eye, but also force the audience to take part in the choreography by choosing what to watch- maybe something different each time; the dancer, the video operator, the actual video, the images....While watching this piece, I intend for the audience to get lost in wondering and imagining who they would put on their “shirt”.
