From a series of exploratory rehearsals in public spaces, Shade explores the craft of creating outdoor architecture and taming landscape to fulfill inter-personal need. The care and craft that goes into perfecting the spaces we inhabit can contribute to or substitute for psychological balance. The architecture of urban public space leaves an imprint on our psyche through/by its tone and structure. Whether it be a dramatic use of space or a "naturally" mundane environment, each element contributes, in some small way, to our sense of well being.
In the city, we take it for granted that everything we encounter has been designed with an intended effect. How many times- in the course of going from point A to point B- do we traverse environments that effect us emotionally, psychologically, even spiritually? How many environments do we encounter that trigger our response to perfection? How do these environments influence our sense of well being, our habits, our interactions with others? Can our experience in these environments be 'used' to negate areas in our emotional lives where we feel lacking?
Through physical research of emotions that defy codified language, Shade examines simultaneous intersections of emotional experiences housed within our bodies and continues unlocking descriptive communication made of movement instead of words.
